저희는 DearU 프로그램의 마지막 미술 수업에서 아이들과 함께 예술을 독특하고 다차원적인 방식으로 접근한 새로운 경험을 나누었습니다.
이 세션에서는 "빛이 되어서 여행"이라는 주제를 중심으로 했습니다. 아이들에게는 DearU에서 제공한 부드러운, 느린 멜로디부터 빠르고 강렬한 리듬의 음악에 귀를 기울이고, 자신들이 빛이 되어 원하는 장소를 탐험하며, 풍부한 상상력을 발휘해 가상의 여행을 떠나는 것을 상상하도록 격려하였습니다.
처음에는 이런 개념에 익숙하지 않아 어색했지만, 아이들이 음악에 맞춰 다양한 제스처와 행동으로 자신만의 해석을 표현하게 되자, 우리의 미술 교실에서 마법같은 시간 여행이 시작되었습니다. 수업의 후반부에서는 아이들이 상상력을 통해 여행하면서 생각했던 장면들을 그림이나 공예품으로 표현하게 되었습니다. 이 과정은 각각의 작품이 아이들 자신만의 독특한 이야기를 담게 하면서, 각자만의 개성이 담긴 아트워크를 창조하는 계기가 되었습니다.

I'm thrilled to share with you an innovative approach we took in our final art lesson in the Dear You program, which allowed us to engage with art in a unique, multidimensional way alongside seven-year-old children.
In this session, we embarked on a thematic journey titled “Light Travel." The children were encouraged to listen to a curated selection of music from Dear You that ranged from gentle, slow melodies to fast-paced, intense rhythms. The primary idea was to imagine themselves transforming into light and exploring desired locations, virtually riding on the wings of their vivid imaginations.
Initially, the concept appeared unfamiliar, but it didn't take long for the children to synchronize with the music, expressing their unique interpretations through a variety of gestures and actions. They were embarking on a magical time travel journey, right in our art classroom.
The latter part of the session focused on expressing the scenes they envisioned during their imaginative journey, using drawing or crafting. This activity prompted the creation of individualistic artwork, with each piece narrating a story as unique as the child who created it.
This lesson was meticulously designed to stimulate the children's creativity and open up the infinite horizons of their imagination. The emphasis was not only on creating art but also on embarking on a creative journey - a journey that fosters self-expression, enhances their imaginative prowess, and cultivates a personal connection with the art. The children were not merely pupils; they were explorers of their own creative realms.
This approach underscores the importance of using unconventional teaching methods in art education for children. It reminds us that art isn't just about the final product, but the process as well. It encourages us to embrace the infinite possibilities that exist within the realm of children's imaginations. Such methods can indeed lay a strong foundation for children to appreciate and engage with art in all its glorious forms throughout their lives.

The 5-7 year old artists at Sang Sang Jungle in Jeju, Korea are making and sharing art with the 4-6 year old artists at The Little Mole International Preschool in Prague, Czech Republic. Their new friendship will blossom through creativity!
