Hello, dear little moles! ("litlar moldvörpur" in Icelandic )
Is your kindergarten called The Little Mole after Krtek?
Here is a little description of our creative process:
I opened the first session connecting our group with yours by comparing the name of our respective kindergartens: Sólvellir for us, which means "sun", and The Little Mole for you. I said maybe your kindergarten is called that way after the famous Czech cartoon character, and I asked them what national character or cartoon we have here in Iceland, and as expected they thought of "Tulipop" (see picture below).
Then, after choosing an oil pastel, we turned off the lights and invited them to close their eyes (or covering them with their beanie), take three long breaths, and start drawing on their black paper while listening to the first question: Who are you?
For the next question, "What can you do?", they passed their oil pastel to the person on their left so they can answer with a different color. And so on, changing each time color for the next questions "What do you like?" and then finally "What would you like to do?".
Once everyone was done, we turned on the lights again and make them expose their work on the wall so we can see what everyone did to have a little discussion about it.
Finally, they went back to play, and Urður invited them one by one to answer the same questions in the same order, but this time with their voice that she was recording while they looked at their drawing. In the end, she asked if they had questions to ask you guys.
Overall, it went well, but it seems to be very abstract to them the concept of connecting with other kids, let alone from another country.
But it will become more "tangible" to them once they will hear and see the artworks that you guys did, and just with time.
Kindly,
Lilaï
